Chiru promises commodities for Rs 100

Expressing concern over spiralling prices of essential commodities and deplorable condition of the poor, Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) president Chiranjeevi assured that essential commodities would be supplied for Rs 100, if his party is voted to power.

MUTTUKUR: Expressing concern over spiralling prices of essential commodities and deplorable condition of the poor, Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) president Chiranjeevi assured that essential commodities would be supplied for Rs 100, if his party is voted to power.

Addressing a public meeting here today, Chiranjeevi said that 25-kg rice, one kilo redgram, one kilo tamarind and one kilo salt would be supplied for Rs 100 every month through fair price shops. Chiranjeevi unvield the statue of Nallapureddy Srinivasulu Reddy in the town.

Earlier addressing a meeting of Praja Ankita Sabha at Muttukur, he criticised the Government for its negligence toward the fishermen who were deprived of their livelihood because of the construction of Krishnapatnam port. He demanded that the Government announce a special package for them within three months. He assured that the PRP would give the package, if voted to power.

Chiranjeevi came down heavily on the Government for denying the fishermen their livelihood.

He said that by ordering the fishermen no to go up to 20 kilometers into the sea, at the newly built port, the Government had taken away their main stay.

Along with the fishermen the farmers of the area were also affected badly by the misdeeds of the Government, the PRP leader alleged.

He questioned the Government where was the need to procure 6,000 acres of land for the port.

The Visakhapatnam Port was functioning with just 1,000 acres, he said and questioned the Government what will it do with the surplus land.

Right from Srikakulam to Muttukur the conditions of the fishermen were the same, the PRP president said. Chiranjeevi demanded the Government to give motor boats and loans to the fishermen.

He alleged that the Government is encouraging real estate business in the guise of industrial development.

The Government is going to acquire another 6,000 acres of land near Muttukur, he said and added that the procurement would devour the lands of poor farmers. Complementing the Chief Minister for his interest in his own constituency, the PRP president wondered why was the Chief Minister not taking the same interest in other areas.

“Whenever I criticise they heckle me saying that I do not know anything.

There is no need to have vast knowledge to make comment on the bad things. Just common sense is sufficient,’’ Chiranjeevi said.

Speaking at Podalakur the actor turned politician criticised the Government for neglecting the farmers who lost land due to Telugu Ganga Project. He visited the dargah of Syed Kareemullah Shah Quadri at Kusumur and offered chader.

However, the thin crowds at Muttukur disappointed Chiranjeevi.

Though he came three hours behind the schedule there was thin crowd.
