The upcoming heroine Tamanna in chitchat with a daily news paper said that, ‘Though I do not interested to have a glamour girl image, when there is demand from the story it become inevitable to expose to certain limits. The limits I set for myself is supposed to be eye feasting, and not to vulgar levels. However, I prefer to be identified as a good actress and not as a glamour doll in the film industry.

I have turned down many offers in the beginning of my career, only because of the demand for skin show. I much bother about the quality of my films than the quantity. You may not believe, but I have turned down a big offer of a big producer. If, I accept his romantic film he assured me for a promising career. But, I didn’t sign the agreement.

However, I can not draw a boundary line around me for ever. If, I do so I may be the last one to remember in the film industry. Hence, exposing to certain limit is inevitable.’

It appears that even politics has begun to take the colors of the Tollywood given the fact that a fair amount of film personalities have now got into the political stream. A class example for this can be the one incident that is currently making rounds and though it's a bit bewildering, it is happening. It is known news that mega powerstar Ramcharan Teja donned the role of a singer and this time it was for his papa Chiranjeevi's 'Praja Rajyam' party. The song that he has sung is said to have shaped out well so now the TDP head Chandrababu Naidu is said to have begun work on a counter to it. There is news that he has requested young tiger NTR to come up with a number and for those who are not aware, NTR has got some prowess towards singing and he was a good singer during his childhood. Only time will tell if this young tiger will growl as per Babu's wish or not.

Following the footsteps of former minister Katari Eswar Kumar, Praja Rajyam Party’s Krishna district leader Kesineni Nani is learnt to have decided to call it quits.

Nani appears to have taken the decision peeved with the alleged dominating behavior of another leader Vijaya Nirmala and the PRP top leaders supporting her.

It may be recalled Nani and Vijaya Nirmala's groups clashed at PRP office for an upper hand during Republic day celebrations on Monday.

Sources said Nani may join the Telugu Desam Party on Wednesday.

Mega Star to act in films again?

If every thing goes as planned, Mega Star may go to sets for shooting before the elections. Although he has declared his retirement from the film industry, Mega star is facing tremendous pressure from his fans and his well-wishers to accept at least one film before the elections.

If every thing goes as planned, Mega Star may go to sets for shooting before the elections. Although he has declared his retirement from the film industry, Mega star is facing tremendous pressure from his fans and his well-wishers to accept at least one film before the elections. Allu Aravind, Pawan kalyan and other close associates of Mega star are also with the same opinion. Because, once he elected to assembly then he cannot do any films due to the constitutional obligations.

TDP poser to Chiranjeevi

The Telugu Desam Party on Sunday challenged Praja Rajyam leader K. Chiranjeevi to prove his claim that TDP president N.chandrababu Naidu.

HYDERABAD:jan 26,2006- The Telugu Desam Party on Sunday challenged Praja Rajyam leader K. Chiranjeevi to prove his claim that TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu had described “agriculture as waste”. It accused him of “parroting baseless allegations” levelled by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy “without knowing facts”.

At a press conference here TDP leaders Ummareddy Venkateswarulu and Arvind Kumar Goud refuted Mr. Chiranjeevi’s charges that the State-owned dairy had to be shut down due to encouragement of private dairy during the TDP regime.

They said the PRP leader should have known that the dairy after incurring losses was closed in 1991, while the Heritage Dairy was started in 1993.

Rejecting the allegation that TDP had watered down the principles of its founder N.T. Rama Rao, they said the party regime had implemented all the schemes. They accused Mr. Chiranjeevi of “talking through his hat”.

Chiru warns partymen

HYDERABAD: Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi said on Tuesday that the party high command

HYDERABAD: Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi said on Tuesday that the party high command would not brook dissidence and reminded district committee members that the need of the hour was for them to work together.

At the first meeting for Visakhapatnam (Urban & Rural), Chittoor, Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad convened here since the district committees were formed, he said it was time for everyone in the PR to get down to business. “We have very little time before the elections. We know that people are looking for change and all they need is just a little push to help them take the decision,” he told party leaders.

Mr. Chiranjeevi urged them to take up people-contact programmes as prescribed by the State committee. He said the programmes would be titled ‘Gadapa Gadapaku Praja Rajyam, Gunde Gundelo Praja Rajyam’ (Praja Rajyam at every doorstep and Praja Rajyam in every heart).

He reminded them that there was so much goodwill for the PR in the people, as was in evidence at his public appearances and asked them not to relax.

“You are the bridge between the party and the people, so get close to them and motivate them to vote out the Congress and the Telugu Desam,” he said. Senior leader Ch. Harirama Jogaiah said that by the month-end, committees would be in place at the Assembly constituency level. He said henceforth, from the district, Assembly constituency and down to the mandal-level, committee members needed to strictly follow a schedule to be chalked out and communicated to them by the State committee.

There were too many reports of people individually taking up programmes on their own, he said.

TAXING thoughts at Poll time....

A request to PRP....
Over the last few years, different taxes have been levied,in the form of cess etc.
We sincerely hope that PRP would take up the following with the central government and see that the citizens get thier due....
- The govt has loaded one cess after another on the INCOME TAX paid by the individual. This is taxation through the backdoor, using a surreptitious route to milk the MOST UNDER-REPRESENTED POLITICAL CLASS(The tax paying honest citizen)
- The government, unable to stem the rot in it's finances,is passing on the burden to the salaried class.
- The education cess is the government's admission that is is squandering away the tax-payer's contributions and needs more funds to fulfill it's basic duties
- The concept of service tax needs to be revisited since it demotivates entreprenuership
- The hidden costs on utilities need to be removed

ATMAGOURAVA SABHA in WARANGAL

The meeting is over and Pawan Kalyan lambasted the political establishment for the uttr lack of interest in the societal problems and quoted Swami Vivekananda extensively in his speech.
He reiterated that he would be with the people and would fight for the people's cause.
He came down heavily on the government for the fake encounters and promised that there would not be any encounters if PRP comes to power.

INDRA in KUPPAM and Chittoor road show

It happenned in 2002 and has been re-enacted again...

Never before in the history of KUPPAM - The meeting has surpassed INDRA. There was a massive turnout and people cheered Chiru when he attacked TDP for closing down the govt owned Chittor dairy and opening his own Heritage foods.
He said that OPPORTUNISIM and CORRUPTION are the hallmarks of the present politicians

The interesting aspect in his sppech was when Chiru said that the people had every right to point out his mistakes and said that he is answerable to the people as he is thier servant and not thier master.

Chiru asks people to dump Congress, TDP

image

Praja Rajyam founder Chiranjeevi’s juggernaut rolled on for the second consecutive day in Chittoor district, attracting, on the way, huge crowds comprising youth and women.

TIRUPATI: Praja Rajyam founder Chiranjeevi’s juggernaut rolled on for the second consecutive day in Chittoor district, attracting, on the way, huge crowds comprising youth and women.

Setting out from Palamaner in a long motorcade he covered about 10 major towns spread across four Assembly constituencies on the semi-arid western track of the district. His attack on the Congress and the TDP turned strident on Friday apparently after seeing the impressive crowds he attracted.

Social justice

The actor-turned-politician called upon the people to take a pledge to dump the parties in the ensuing elections and show them where they deserved to go. He warned the voters that one more mistake at the hustings would doom their fate forever and sought to enlist their support for his party, which, he said, remained steadfast in its commitment to social justice and all-round development.

Lashing out at the Congress government for its failure in holding the price line, he said there was a yawning gap in the prices of essential commodities and the salaries earned by people. He had a dig at his two rival parties for trying to dub the groundswell of support he was receiving from the public as mere euphoria that would burst like a bubble sooner than later.

KCR slammed

Hyderabad Special Correspondent adds: Member of the Praja Rajyam’s Political Affairs Committee, K.Vidyadhar Rao, charged Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K. Chandrasekhara Rao with not really wishing for a separate State and only taking the people for a ride for political gains.

At a press conference, he said that if Telangana became a separate State, Mr. Rao would not have a platform at all and his political existence would be at peril.

Later, party general secretary P. Mitra announced the formation of a 230-strong committee for West Godavari district with Satyaprasad, a doctor said to be a childhood friend of Mr. Chiranjeevi, as convenor.

Pawan’s four-day yatra concludes

Yuva Rajyam president and film star Pawan Kalyan has successfully completed his four-day yatra in various parts of Karimnagar district from January 20 to 23 and pepped up the morale of the party rank and file in general and his fans in particular.

KARIMNAGAR: Yuva Rajyam president and film star Pawan Kalyan has successfully completed his four-day yatra in various parts of Karimnagar district from January 20 to 23 and pepped up the morale of the party rank and file in general and his fans in particular.

He launched his yatra by offering prayers to Lord Hanuman at Sri Anjaneya Swamy devasthanams in Kondagattu temple shrine in Mallial mandal and concluded it by participating in padayatra from Ramagundam mandal to Yellampalli project.

NTP participates

Braving the dusty roads and scorching sun, Mr. Pawan Kalyan traversed the kutcha road to reach Yellampalli project from Ramagundam mandal on Friday. The youth came in large numbers to participate in the padayatra. The Nava Telanagna party (NTP) cadres had also participated in the yatra and cheered Mr. Pawan Kalyan at all places.

He was accorded a warm reception at all places with the youth and womenfolk coming in large numbers to have a glimpse of film star. He also tried to attract the gathering with his interactive mode with the students, youth, women, farmers and senior citizens. On the outskirts of Peddapalli town, he entered fields barefoot and spoke to farmers.

Targets Congress

During his first day of the yatra, he won accolades for reiterating the Praja Rajyam party commitment for the cause of Telangana statehood after attaining power in State. On the whole, he targeted the Congress party for alleged corruption during his speeches in road shows. He also blamed the TDP and the TRS for neglecting the cause of Telangana sentiment.

As an actor-turned-politician, he entertained his fans and the youth by dancing to the rhythmic Telangana drum beats in Chigurumamidi mandal. He also attracted the youth with his speech in Karimnagar town at the Youth convention.

The party observers said that PR president Chiranjeevi had attracted the general public with his speeches during the Praja Ankitha yatra and Yuva Rajyam president with his emotional-packed speeches.

Chiranjeevi lashes out at YSR, Naidu

TIRUPATI: On the penultimate day of his four-day extensive road show in Chittoor district, Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi, on Saturday, lashed out at Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy and TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu.

Apparently stung by his two major rivals repeatedly dubbing him a political novice and a non-entity, he took pot-shots at them amid loud cheers from the crowd which milled around his vehicle.

In an oblique reference to the ‘faction culture’ of the Congress bigwigs from the Rayalaseema region, Mr. Chiranjeevi agreed that he was a novice as far as the faction culture was concerned as he depended only on hard work, honesty, sincerity and courage of conviction.

He then went on to recall how thousands got hacked to death in the unending faction feuds in the region leaving young women languish as widows for life even as their children turned orphans. .

He also did not agree that the sops and schemes he announced during the course of his campaign are ‘populist’ and insisted they were ‘social imperatives’ necessary to address the problems of the poor.

Turning his ire at Mr. Naidu, the PR leader said it was an irony that Mr. Naidu, who had undermined late N.T. Rama Rao’s most cherished policies such as the Rs. 2-a-kg rice scheme and total prohibition for his own narrow political gains, should now eulogise NTR’s noble qualities and vision.

Three constituencies

Mr. Chiranjeevi was on a whistle-stop campaign in the district covering three constituencies — Punganur, Piler and Puthalpet.

Cinema Star Ramcharan Teja, Son of Prajarajyam President Chirangeevi, has sing a song for PRP.

Ram Charan Teja son of Chiranjeevi sang a song with music rendered by Devi Sri Prasad for a publicity audio album proposed for Prajarajyam Party. The album contains five songs and four were earlier recorded.

To start with it will be played in the district tour of Chiranjeevi commencing from Arasavalli Surya temple tomorrow. The young hero earlier driven the van Chiru for political tour now sang a song and proved his worth as a singer.

PRP Leader Tammineni says The doors are still open for TRS

Speaking to press PRP party leader Tammineni Seetharam said that though PRP was not desperate for tie-ups in the coming elections, the party was open to talks with parties they think would be able partners in change.

Tammineni said that if TRS was in doubts over tie-up, they could discuss and that the doors were open for TRS, and said they will wait for TRS response.

Chiranjeevi addresses people in Tamil, Kannada

TIRUPATI: Indrasena Reddy, the lead character of the film “Indra” that shot megastar Chiranjeevi to fame and further into the political arena, reappeared on the Kuppam soil after a gap of eight years, much to the amusement of the public.

Film buffs know that the crucial scenes in the film “Indra”, including the climax, were picturised in Kuppam, but not many are aware that Mr Chiranjeevi opened up, for the first time on his entry into politics, in this town, during an interview while shooting for the film in 2001.

He recalled that he had said that time would decide his future course of action and that no force could stop his entry into politics if it was destined. During his road show on Thursday, Mr Chiranjeevi reminisced the day when he kissed the soil on his return to Rayalaseema in the movie and said it was an “unforgettable moment” for him.

As Kuppam has a sizeable chunk of Tamil and Kannada-speaking population, given its proximity to the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka border, Mr.Chiranjeevi greeted the public with “Vanakkam” in Tamil and “Namaskaragalu” in Kannada.

Revolt against corrupt politicians: Pawan

image

KODIMIAL (KARIMNAGAR DT): Yuva Rajyam president Pawan Kalyan on Tuesday called upon people in general and youth in particular to revolt against the “corrupt” Congress Government and form people’s government by electing Praja Rajyam to power. He launched his four-day yatra in Karimnagar district by offering prayers to Lord Hanuman at Sri Anjaneya Swamy devasthanam in Kondagattu temple in Mallial mandal in the afternoon. He participated in the breaking of about 1,116 coconuts as an offering to the presiding deity at the temple. Addressing a mammoth gathering at the Kodimial mandal headquarters, Mr. Pawan alleged that the Congress Government was snatching away everything available from the people.

“For last six decades, politicians have been literally harassing the people by not taking up any developmental programmes. The politicians are concerned about their own development so that their families can live happily for decades,” he alleged

Chiranjeevi promises women their due

image

HYDERABAD: Praja Rajyam president K. Chiranjeevi on Tuesday regretted that several programmes initiated by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi continued to remain on paper and promised that his party would give the fairer sex the recognition and opportunity they deserved.

Addressing a large gathering of women, the first such meeting of Mahila Rajyam, he said it was a pity that successive governments kept making promises but never delivered.

‘Be fearless’

“It has become an all-too-familiar phenomenon for political leaders to promise the moon to you and promptly forget after getting your votes. The time has come to teach all such political parties a lesson,” he said, to applause in a packed auditorium here.

Referring to increasing instances of violence against women, he said, “only when you are not afraid and hit back will men refrain from such acts.”

In an interactive session, Mr. Chiranjeevi patiently heard them out and responded to their queries. A group of women from Kukkunur mandal (Khammam) said they were agitating seeking the inclusion in the resettlement and rehabilitation package for the Polavaram displaced. Another groupfrom Warangal district said that though the government had announced a scheme where the first girl child in a farmer’s family would be given a sum of Rs. 1 lakh, they were yet to see it in reality.

Cong. cheating people onTelangana issue: PRP

image
Karimnagar : Telugu actor and Chiranjeevi's youngest brother Pavan Kalyan on Tuesday lashed out at Congress for deceiving people of Telangana on carving out a separate state. Launching his four-day tour of Karimnagar district today, Pavan Kalyan, who is also the president of Praja Rajyam Party's youth wing Yuva Rajyam, said the Congress had one body but 1000 heads that spoke in different voices. "One head favours Telangana while one sings the development song. Yet another head speaks a different voice. The party, that rode to power on the promise of granting statehood for Telangana region, has conveniently ignored the issue and cheated the people of the region," Pavan Kalyan alleged. He also said the Congress lacked clarity on the Telangana issue. "It is, however, clear only one issue: not granting statehood for the region," Pavan Kalyan said. Even the pro-Telangana outfit, Telangana Rashtra Samiti, failed to achieve anything for the region in the last four-and-a-half years. "TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao launched a fast-unto-death near Jantar-Mantar in New Delhi vowing to achieve statehood for Telangana. But he could hardly sit on the fast for half-a-day," the Yuva Rajyam chief ridiculed. He assured the people of the region that Praja Rajyam Party, if voted to power, would pass a resolution in the State Legislature for creation of Telangana. "Only the PRP is very clear on the Telangana issue. We shall respect the wishes of the people of the region and leave no effort to fulfil their wishes," Pavan Kalyan promised. Earlier, he visited the famous Hanuman temple at Kondagutta near Karimnagar and offered prayers before embarking on his tour.

HYDERABAD: The Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) had more clarity than any other party on the Telangana issue and it would abide by its earlier statements, said PRP youth wing president Pawan Kalyan. He said the PRP would work for the social development of Telangana. Speaking to reporters here today, Pawan Kalyan stated that he would not contest in the upcoming elections but remain an activist to work for the success of the PRP. He said the party would participate in ‘Yuvatarang’ programme organised by the Election Commission of India (ECI) and encourage youth to get registered as voters. The ‘Yuvatarang’ programme took off in all colleges across the State today and will conclude on January 24. Students can register themselves for voter identity cards at their colleges. Earlier, Pawan Kalyan called upon Chief Electoral Officer I V Subba Rao and appreciated the initiatives by the ECI, including the setting up of drop boxes at public places and `Yuvatarang’ programme in colleges to encourage public to register for voter identity cards. I’m more popular than NTR, claims Chiru

image I’m more popular than NTR, claims Chiru
HYDERABAD: Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) founder Chiranjeevi today claimed that he was wielding more popularity than the Telugu Desam Party founder NT Rama Rao. He, however, cautioned the party activists not to bank entirely on his charisma. If anything unexpected happens in the elections, it would be the responsibility of party workers, he warned. Addressing the meeting of seven district committees of the PRP here today, Chiranjeevi said that he had gained much popularity than NTR. “Senior leaders like P Upendra and others who witnessed NTR’s campaign in 1982 told me that the popularity I am enjoying is much more than what NTR enjoyed,’’ the actor-turned politician said. The PRP had already constituted district committees well before the elections, he said and wanted the party leaders to mingle with the people. “You have to ensure poll victory for the PRP,’’ Chiranjeevi told the party leaders. He directed district leaders to constitute booth and village-level committees and directed the cadre to popularise the Rs 100 package and free power to artisans and farmers, the schemes so far announced by the PRP. Launching a scathing attack on the Congress Government, Chiranjeevi said that the State went bankrupt during Rajasekhara Reddy’s regime. He directed the party leaders to highlight corruption in the Government. He expressed confidence that youth were the main strength of his party, who were thronging to his meetings in large numbers. PRP spokesman Mitra said that they were conducting surveys in all the Assembly segments and eliciting the opinions of the public to finalise the party candidates in the next elections.

Ram Charan's Historical Film in Progress

image

Shooting of the second film of Ram Charan Teja, son of Chiranjeevi, directed by SS Rajamouli and produced by Allu Aravind under the banner of Gita Arts is progressing well. Kajal Agarwal is playing the female lead in the flick.

It is well aware that the film is being made with a historical story in its backdrop and is based on birth and rebirth concept. Some historical scenes for the film were already shot in Rajasthan and Gujarat recently and presently the film is being shot in Ramoji Film City in Bhairavakonda set, involving Ram Charan Teja and Kajal. Srihari is playing a key role in the movie.

It is worth mentioning here that Chiranjeevi shook his legs along with his son for one of the songs. Story is by Vijayendra Prasad, dialogues are by M Ratnam, styling by Rama Rajamouli and music by MM Keeravani. The film is most likely to hit the screen in summer.

HYDERABAD: Terming it a Sankranti gift to the people, Praja Rajyam president

K. Chiranjeevi said on Tuesday that if elected to power, he would offer power to about a crore of rural households upto the mandal-level at a 50 per cent concession on their billing.

At a press conference here, primarily to convey festival greetings to the people, he also announced free power to artisans.

These two schemes were part of a programme chalked out by the party’s Manifesto Committee, which would in the near future come out with the detailed manifesto, he said.

Mr. Chiranjeevi said the 50 per cent concession in billing for rural households would help about six crore people comprising 70 per cent of the population.

As for the second scheme, he said the details of how many people would benefit and the like were being worked out.

They would all be clearly spelt out in the party’s manifesto, he said, not elaborating further.

In response to a question, he said existing subsidy schemes would be continued.

When reminded that initially he had said he was opposed to populist schemes and asked if this meant a ‘U’ turn on that policy, he quipped that it could not be termed populist, declining to explain.

He blamed successive governments for their inability to control inflation.

He regretted that in these days of inflationary trends, with skyrocketing prices of essential commodities and services, people were unable to even visit their native places by train or bus to celebrate Sankranti and other festivals with their near and dear ones.

180 cr. paid to plant management though not even a single unit was generated till now, party alleges

VISAKHAPATNAM: As part of Praja Rajyam Party’s campaign against corruption and various scams, its leaders and cadre, headed by district and city units’ convener and former MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao staged a dharna in front of LVS Power project near Pendurty, about 30 km. from here on Friday, demanding action against perpetrators of the ‘scam’. According to Mr. Srinivasa Rao and other speakers, who addressed party workers near the plant premises at Gurrampalem, as much as Rs.180 crores had been paid to the plant management in the last six years, even though not even single unit of power was generated. Participants at the dharna displayed placards which highlighted how the plant management ‘without a single employee’ had allegedly pocketed Rs.30 crores in the last six years.

The PRP leader blamed both the TDP and the Congress for what he termed as ‘the scam’. The agreement was signed in 2002 when the TDP was in power. During his paadayatra as Opposition leader, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy alleged irregularities in Power Purchase Agreements and promised to review all PPAs. But nothing was done in the last four and a half years of his rule.

According to him the plant was owned by a close relative of a Union Cabinet Minister from the State. He demanded a statement from the Government regarding all aspects of the liquid fuel-based 37 MW capacity plant. The PRP would continue its agitation till action was taken, he asserted, and announced constitution of an action committee to carry on the agitation. Party Ganababu and G.V. Narasimha Rao also addressed the gathering

The self styled leader of the Talli Telangana Party Vijayashanthi made a big splash when she first announced her intention to enter politics. She was seen in the BJP for some time before launching her own political outfit.

Vijayashanthi has been crying from the rooftops that she will not rest until her goal of achieving separate Telangana was reached. But she soon ran out of steam and the party also did not boast of any big leader not did it have any cadre worth the name.

After Chiranjeevi entered politics and launched the PRP, many people expected that Vijayashanthi would sail with Chiranjeevi. But no such thing happened.

Vijayashanthi has now made her choice clear. She prefers to sail with the wily politician K Chandrashelar Rao than with megastar Chiranjeevi, her one time hero in films. She will merger her Talli Telanagana Party with the TRS later this month.

PRP Convenor Distributed Commodities at 100 to Poor Families

In order to propagate Praja Prajyam’s promise of providing essential commodities at the rate of Rs. 100 per month, the PR district unit has distributed 25 kg rice, 1 kg red gram, 1 kg tamarind and 1 kg salt at the rate of Rs. 100 only to 100 poor families in Karimnagar town on Friday. Formal launch PR district convenor Velichala Rajender Rao formally launched the scheme at the party office by distributing the essential commodities to poor families at the party office in Karimnagar town. Speaking on the occasion, he said that they had decided to further intensify the campaign of providing essential commodities at Rs. 100 through fair price shops after attaining power by conducting similar symbolic programmes in all mandals. He also said that they would also educate the people about other promises of the party such as providing free education to girl child, 50 per cent power subsidy to the domestic consumers, free power to the artisans and other issues. Terming the grand alliance as ‘unholy and unethical’, the PR leader said that the people would teach a fitting lesson to TDP, TRS and Left parties for their ‘nexus’ to attain only power by neglecting their ideologies. He found fault with the TRS president K. Chandrashekhar Rao for forging alliance with TDP and Left parties, which were committed for integrated Andhra Pradesh State. He reiterated that the PR was committed for the formation of Telangana statehood by passing a resolution in the State Assembly after attaining power.

Chiranjeevi lashes out at Congress

ONGOLE: Praja Rajyam Party president, Chiranjeevi, who got a tumultuous welcome at Addanki in Prakasam district on Friday, blamed the Congress government for trying to disrupt his meetings.

Addressing a meeting at Darsi at 2 p.m. on the third day of his tour in the district, Mr. Chiranjeevi said that the officials denied permission for his meeting at three grounds in Markapur on Wednesday. One ground was rejected on the plea that somebody had sought it for a cricket match!

When he was addressing the meeting in a ground far away from the town, power supply was cut causing untold hardship to thousands of people thronged to hear him.

But people yearning for a change gave him unstinting support making all the efforts of the Congress futile, he said. “Can they stop sunlight with their palms”, he asked.

“When I entered cinema industry, I had no godfather. But I brought some change in dances and fights and won the appreciation of people and finally industry elders too gave up their skepticism.

Similarly, I have no godfathers in politics now. But I promise to bring revolutionary changes in politics, put an end to corruption, revive respect for politicians and use power to serve the people”, he declared.

SEZ

Mr. Chiranjeevi said that the Congress leaders are amassing wealth through corrupt deals and SEZs throwing crumbs of bread crumbs to poor in the name of welfare schemes.

He said people are thronging his meetings welcoming change in politics.

But Congress leaders are under the mistaken impression that he was drawing crowds with his cinema glamour.

He said people are supporting PRP in the hope that it would bring social justice and provide good governance.

Hundreds of people thronged Bhavani centre at Addanki from 4 p.m. and took vantage positions to have a glimpse of the cine actor. When Mr. Chiranjeevi reached the place at 6 p.m., they lustily greeted him. While scores of youth rode on motorcycles wearing head bands and holding party flags aloft, men and women ran after the convoy to the meeting place, two kilometers away.

Police, who made bundobust, had tough time controlling the crowds and traffic in the small town of Addanki which burst at the seams.

Stampede at PRP office for ration kits in Kurnool

A near stampede condition prevailed at the Praja Rajyam office here on Friday when party leaders offered to distribute sample kits of provisions among the public. Women jostled against one another to collect their bags containing 25 kg rice, redgram dhal, edible oil and salt of one kilo each and half-a-kilo tamarind. The leaders distributed free coupons to five hundred families to enable them to get the sample kits. The entire exercise cost the party Rs. 3 lakh. Moid Khan, Lagisetty Viswanatham, Venkateswarlu and Iqbal contributed to the scheme. After launching the scheme, district convener Bhuma Nagireddy said, the idea behind the sample kits’ distribution was to introduce the grand scheme of the Praja Rajyam to people and make it known to them that the scheme would be a permanent one if the party came to power. The family had to pay Rs. 100 to get the kit which was worth Rs. 500. However, the sample kits were distributed free-of-cost. On learning about the free distribution, women stormed the office in a large numbers. Some reached there with coupons and some without coupons. As the distribution counter was upstairs, the staircase leading to it was overcrowded. Some women who had collected their bags and could not come back through the staircase, started dropping their bags to the floor from the top. While some kits got damaged in the process, other women lost their bags by the time they could come down to collect them. The leaders said, the programme was a huge success as it drew good response from the women. Enthused by the response, Mr. Nagireddy said, the leaders would go to Srisailam first and launch the campaign in the district starting from Aluru. The district leaders would complete the preliminary round of campaign by the time Chiranjeevi visited the district in February.
