ONGOLE: Praja Rajyam Party president, Chiranjeevi, who got a tumultuous welcome at Addanki in Prakasam district on Friday, blamed the Congress government for trying to disrupt his meetings.
Addressing a meeting at Darsi at 2 p.m. on the third day of his tour in the district, Mr. Chiranjeevi said that the officials denied permission for his meeting at three grounds in Markapur on Wednesday. One ground was rejected on the plea that somebody had sought it for a cricket match!
When he was addressing the meeting in a ground far away from the town, power supply was cut causing untold hardship to thousands of people thronged to hear him.
But people yearning for a change gave him unstinting support making all the efforts of the Congress futile, he said. “Can they stop sunlight with their palms”, he asked.
“When I entered cinema industry, I had no godfather. But I brought some change in dances and fights and won the appreciation of people and finally industry elders too gave up their skepticism.
Similarly, I have no godfathers in politics now. But I promise to bring revolutionary changes in politics, put an end to corruption, revive respect for politicians and use power to serve the people”, he declared.
SEZ
Mr. Chiranjeevi said that the Congress leaders are amassing wealth through corrupt deals and SEZs throwing crumbs of bread crumbs to poor in the name of welfare schemes.
He said people are thronging his meetings welcoming change in politics.
But Congress leaders are under the mistaken impression that he was drawing crowds with his cinema glamour.
He said people are supporting PRP in the hope that it would bring social justice and provide good governance.
Hundreds of people thronged Bhavani centre at Addanki from 4 p.m. and took vantage positions to have a glimpse of the cine actor. When Mr. Chiranjeevi reached the place at 6 p.m., they lustily greeted him. While scores of youth rode on motorcycles wearing head bands and holding party flags aloft, men and women ran after the convoy to the meeting place, two kilometers away.
Police, who made bundobust, had tough time controlling the crowds and traffic in the small town of Addanki which burst at the seams.
