AP Government Under Scrutiny

In a mad rush to make a last minute kill and gain political advantage the state government has issued more than 1000 GOs in the last week alone, this effort somehow tried to under scuttle the election code of conduct and make a mockery of it, but now the plan seems to have misfired despite the mad rush as more than 250 of those GOs were signed after the election dates were announced, and this has been brought to the notice of the EC, The Andhra Pradesh state Election Commissioner I V Subba Rao has assured an enquiry into this affair and if he finds something fishy in the way the GOs were passed then the YSR government and the Congress party will find themselves in deep shit.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi secretary general Vijayashanti says she was compelled to merge her Talli Telangana Party with the TRS only because she did not get enough support from the media. “For the last five years, I have fought single-handedly for Telangana. Being a woman, it is a great achievement and I did not succumb to any pulls and pressures. I was a celebrity with more than two decades in the glamour field and people know me very well. Yet, the media did not give me due importance, because of which I did not get the backing from other Telangana leaders. This is the importance being given to woman of independent character and spirit,” she said, in an interview to a private TV channel on Friday. Vijayashanti says it is rather unfortunate that the Telangana parties had to join hands with Andhra parties to achieve the goal of Telangana. In that context, the TRS joining hands with the Mahakootami is a little better, compared to Nava Telangana Party merging with Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam, which had absolutely no clarity on Telangana issue, she says.

Symbol eludes Praja Rajyam Chiranjeevi

The Election Commission has once again rejected the appeal of Chiranjeevi’s Praja Rajyam for a common symbol for the elections.

Sources said a six-page letter explaining the reasons for the rej-ection had be-en sent to the Chief Electi-on Offi-cer in Hydera-bad to be forwarded to the party. EC officials refu-sed to comment.

The EC has said only recognised political parties are eligible for a permanent symbol while registered parties will have to choose from the ”free symbols” available.

In Hyderabad, the Praja Rajyam spokesperson, Mr Parakala Prabhakar said the party would move the Supreme Court for the symbol. He said, however, that the party had not received the communication from the Election Commission.

There is no proposal to approach any party for its symbol. “We know it cannot be done. It was a crazy idea floated by someone, we are not responsible for that,” he said.

Chiranjeevi said the YSR should take the responsibility for the present agitation undertaken by MRPS

The PR chief said his party would ensure categorisation of SCs as a part of social justice.

Referring to the comments of CPI (M) State secretary B.V.Raghavalu that if Mr. Chiranjeevi was serious about defeating the Congress, he should join the Mahakutami, the actor-turned politician said asking him to join the Mahakutami proved that they were weak.

Chiranjeevi says, PRP first list by March 10

Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi on Monday said that the first list of the contesting candidates of his party in the ensuing election would be announced by March 10.

Speaking to media persons at Achampet town in the district, he said there was no confusion about the selection of candidates.

He said in fact he wanted to make public the first list on March 1 or 2 itself, but due to some unavoidable circumstances it was getting delayed.

He brushed aside the news that only his relatives and family members have a say in deciding candidates to be fielded in the election.

“We are following all democratic norms in selecting the candidates. We have asked the district conveners of our party to submit the list of candidates who were aspiring to contest the elections from their respective constituencies and subsequently they will be short listed,” he said.

Mr. Chiranjeevi said there was a chance to appeal to the Chief Election Commission once again on the issue of common symbol to his party in coming elections.

Mr. Chiranjeevi said his government would pass resolutions in the State Assembly on creation of Telangana State and categorisation of SCs in the event of his party coming to power.

MRPS worker’s death; trouble for YSR?

Madiga Reservation Porata Samithi youth wing leader Surendra Madiga, who lead the attack on Gandhi Bhavan from the front on Saturday, succumbed to burn injuries at a private hospital on Sunday morning.

Surendra received 90 per cent burns, while he and his fellow MRPS activists were setting ablaze Gandhi Bhavan. He told media on Saturday night that he was ready to give up life for the sake of SC categorisation. The condition of another activist Damodar is also said to be critical.

Surendra’s death is expected to create a lot of trouble for Y S Rajasekhara Reddy government, since the MRPS activists are likely to go on rampage all over the State creating a serious law and order problem. That would be real problem for YSR before the elections. MRPS president Manda Krishna had already given a call to his activists to demolish the Congress flagposts and erect memorials for Surender. At the same time, he vowed to defeat the Congress in the next elections using all possible methods.

Whether it will have an impact on the electoral prospects of the Congress or not is not immediately known, but it will definitely trigger unrest in the State. And Opposition parties are waiting in the wings to cash in on the trouble!

Roja: 'I will expose Chiru and Pavan'

Looks like Telugu Mahila president Roja does not want to relent on her attack on Praja Rajyam Party, but wants to prolong the controversy. Roja told mediapersons on Saturday that she was not going to leave PRP president Chiranjeevi and his brother Pavan Kalyan so easily. “It was Chiranjeevi who scripted the dialogues of Mahila Rajyam president Sobha Rani. The entire attack on me with filthy comments was masterminded by Chiranjeevi. He is a great actor even in real life. I am not going to spare him till he apologises,” she said. Roja, however, expressed regrets over her remarks against Pavan Kalyan’s wife Renu Desai. She said she did not make the comments intentionally, but did it in a fit of emotion, while reacting to Sobha’s comments. Well, the battle is still on!!

This might come across as a revelation to a few but then it is being said very strongly that the former IAS officer Jayaprakash Narayan who has now got into politics and formed the ‘Lok Satta’ party has a very strong link with the media baron Ramoji Rao who heads the Eenadu group.

Sources close to both say that there was a time when JP used to receive a whopping 50k-1 lakh rupees for the articles he contributed to the Eenadu paper from Ramoji whereas the others would get a paltry 500- 1000 rupees. So much so that JP is said to have a magazine that is still running and has a subscription of less than 3000 copies but it has a solid backing from one of the distribution set ups of Ramoji.

It is said that Ramoji wanted to create an alternative political power in the form of JP and then associate him with the long standing Telugu Desam Party but for some reasons, that failed to work out. Recently, JP is said to have met up with Ramoji again and folks are wondering what is there in the menu this time.

Analysts now say that JP is well learned man, good speaker and manager but not a reasonable leader. No cadre was built up in Lok Satta till now and no one knows who the lady that moves along with him all the time. KCR creates new post for Ramulamma

Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhara Rao has created a new post, only for the sake of “sister” Vijayashanti, who recently joined TRS amidst a lot of fanfare. Party sources say Vijayashanti would be made “Secretary General” of the TRS and would play an important role in the electioneering. In fact, KCR himself went to the residence of Vijayashanti on Saturday night and spent a lot of time with her, supposedly to discuss the campaign strategy. Already, there are reports that KCR sacrificed his Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat for Vijayashanti and he would be shifting to Hanamkonda or Medak.
